The Southern Experience: Southern Identity & Southern Culture Through the Years

This course examines the cultural history of the American South from before the Civil War through to the present day. Students will explore how southern culture is represented in literature, music, film, religion, language, and even food. Through the lenses of race, class, and gender we will gain a deeper understanding of the South as a concept, which will ultimately serve to enhance our understanding of the South as a place.
