Kay-Butler Barefoot joined the Department of Writing and Rhetoric in 2018 and teaches SPCH 102, Introduction to Speech. Prior to joining UM, Kay-Butler primarily taught communication courses for 26 years in the North Carolina Community College System. Her teaching experience also includes Business courses focusing on Business Communication and customer service/hospitality workshops. In addition, Kay-Butler has served in various roles including Interim Dean, Curriculum Coordinator, Lead Instructor and Program Coordinator.

Kay-Butler is a proud mom of 3 sons and 3 step children along with her horse, Dixie-Grace and newly adopted dog, Nala. She is an avid sports fan and enjoys power walking, reading and especially entertaining family and friends.)
