Learning Objectives

  • Identify principles of human communication relevant to the business and professional contexts, including face-to-face (or synchronous) and mediated.
  • Develop critical thinking skills through targeted messaging and problem-solving.

Curriculum

Instructors work with students to develop skills in the areas of interpersonal communication, group communication, mediated communication, interviewing and presentation. The Spch 105 curriculum centers on presentation skills in varied professionally relevant contexts. The term grade breaks down as follows:

  • 45% based on presentations (special occasion, informative, persuasive).
  • 15% based on a group project.
  • 15% based on interview assignments (research and/or job).
  • 20% based on written preparation, quizzes, or tests.
  • 5% based on participation. (such as journals, community engagement, etc.).
