Gender’s a Drag: Gender Performance in Pop Culture

In this seminar, students examine what gender is — and, ultimately, how it’s performed. Students will explore concepts of gender existing on a spectrum and discuss what it means to be transgender, cis-gender, or non-binary. Spanning Little Women to RuPaul’s Drag Show, students will explore stereotypes and gender tropes, as well as changing attitudes and understandings of gender through across time.
