Dr. Khorshed Alam teaches in the United States at the University of Mississippi’s Department of Writing and Rhetoric. He is also an Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a visiting research scholar, he was employed by the Department of Rhetoric and Communication Studies at the University of Richmond in the USA. He earned a doctorate in Communication from the University of South Florida and a master’s degree in mass communication and journalism from the University of Dhaka. His doctoral research has garnered numerous accolades. These awards include a Dissertation Completion Fellowship from the University of South Florida and the Waterhouse Family Institute Dissertation Award from the Department of Communication at Villanova University in the United States. In addition to these honors, Dr. Alam was selected for the Doctoral Honors Seminar 2019 by the National Communication Association (NCA). He was also a graduate student representative of Asian Pacific American Caucus (APAC), NCA, in 2018-19. Several of his papers got Top Paper Awards both in the ICA and NCA conferences.
In 2013, the Department of Journalism and Media Studies at Oslo and Akershus University College of Applied Sciences, Norway, selected Dr. Alam for a research stay. He worked for different media organizations including BBC World Service and BBC Four. Dr. Alam’s research interest includes critical media & cultural studies, critical approaches to advertising, promotional and consumer culture, youth culture, digital culture and resistance, critical social media, technology studies, postcolonial studies, and Bangladesh studies. His research has been published in journals such as Journal of International Communication Gazette, Journal of Social Science Review, Journal of Society and Change, Philosophy and Progress, and Advanced Research in Humanities. Dr. Alam has been contributing as a peer reviewer in different media and communication journals such as International Communication Gazette, Journalism and Media, and SAGE Open.
